Smarter Balanced: Fairness and Accessibility Evaluation

CRESST will be evaluating the fairness and accessibility of the Smarter Balanced summative assessment computer adaptive test items for the 2015-2016 administration, ensuring Title I compliance. The evaluation will include documentation of how fairness and accessibility were evaluated during the entire design and development process, as well as the actual administration of the test for students requiring designated supports and accommodations. This will include an examination of approaches to improve score precision and efficiency of test administration for students using braille. A pilot study will be conducted that examines the types and extent of usage of embedded accommodations among students when engaged in assessment testing.
